Assam’s Cabinet approved the establishment of Swahid Kanaklata Barua University at Bholaguri Tea Estate in Gohpur with a ₹400 crore investment. Announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the university will focus on Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies, offering courses in AI, quantum computing, and robotics. Land acquisition from the tea estate will lead to temporary relocation of residents, with promises of jobs and VRS benefits. Experts from IIT Guwahati and JNU are developing the curriculum. Named after freedom fighter Kanaklata Barua, the university aims to be a pioneering institution in Northeast India for future-ready education.
