Guatemala’s Volcan de Fuego, Central America’s most active volcano, erupted, spewing ash and hot gases up to 7 km, prompting the evacuation of at least 594 people from nearby communities. Authorities expect more evacuations as activity continues. The eruption has affected areas northwest, west, and southwest of the volcano. The government suspended classes at 39 schools and closed a key road. Ash clouds reaching up to 7,000 meters may disrupt air travel. The eruption is expected to last around 40 hours. In 2018, a major eruption killed 215 people and left over 200 missing, highlighting the volcano’s deadly potential.
