A Japanese private company, ispace, declared its lunar mission a failure after its lander, Resilience, crashed while attempting to touch down on the moon. The lander lost contact just before its scheduled landing after a smooth descent from lunar orbit. This is ispace’s second failed moon landing, following a crash in 2022 during its Hakuto-R Mission 1. Resilience was carrying a mini rover and a Swedish artist’s model house, intended for lunar exploration and NASA research. Despite setbacks, ispace plans a bigger mission by 2027 with NASA, though funding limits pose challenges for repeated attempts.
