The Chenab Bridge, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Jammu and Kashmir, is the world’s highest railway bridge and part of the 272-km USBRL project. Standing 359 metres tall—35 metres higher than the Eiffel Tower—the bridge is built with 28,660 MT of steel and can withstand extreme temperatures, winds up to 266 km/h, and strong earthquakes. It took 20 years and ₹1,486 crore to complete due to the challenging Himalayan terrain. PM Modi also launched Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar, specially designed with features like heating systems, anti-spall layers, and auto-drain toilets for safe travel in sub-zero conditions.
