Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that rapid urban development without proper drainage planning is causing frequent artificial floods in cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar. He stressed the urgent need to improve drainage infrastructure to keep up with urban expansion, questioning how water will drain if new buildings block natural flow paths. Sarma emphasized the importance of sustainable planning alongside development. He stated that better drainage systems are essential to prevent recurring floods. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also visited a relief camp in flood-affected Sribhumi district to assess the situation and support affected citizens.
