Elon Musk’s Starlink has received regulatory approval from India’s Department of Telecommunications with the GMPCS licence, making it the third company authorized to offer satellite internet after Bharti Airtel-Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed that spectrum allocation is the next step before large-scale service launch. Starlink, operated by SpaceX, had paused earlier efforts due to regulatory issues but is now set to enter one of the world’s most promising satellite internet markets. Scindia emphasized satellite connectivity’s role in bridging digital gaps, especially in remote areas, boosting India’s broadband-from-space capabilities.
