Violent clashes erupted in Maheshtala, West Bengal, between locals and police over a land dispute involving a ‘tulsi mancha’ built at a site claimed to be temple land, previously occupied by a minority trader. Five police personnel, including DC (Port) Harikrishna Pai, were injured, vehicles were torched, and tear gas was used to disperse the mob. Twelve arrests were made. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged Hindus were targeted and demanded central force deployment. Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh denied any broader law and order issue, calling the incident unfortunate but isolated. Security has been heightened, and patrols continue.
