Nalbari district has become Assam’s leader in tree plantation, planting over 1.7 million saplings since 2023 under state and central initiatives like Amrit Brikshya Andolan and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. In 2024 alone, over 16.9 lakh saplings were planted, with strong contributions from schools, colleges, self-help groups, and NGOs. The district boasts a 94% survival rate for saplings, with some areas achieving 100%. Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka praised community involvement, especially women's groups, for making the efforts grassroots-driven. The campaign has fostered environmental awareness, civic pride, and emotional connections, turning tree planting into a legacy of sustainability.
