A massive explosion at Rig No. 147 under ONGC’s Rudrasagar oil field in Bhatiyapara, Sivasagar district, triggered widespread panic on Wednesday. The rig, reportedly operated by SK Petrochemical, suffered a sudden blast causing high-pressure natural gas leakage, with the hissing noise audible up to 4 km away. Frightened villagers fled their homes fearing further danger. The Bari Chowk area was especially affected, creating intense tension. Emergency response teams, including several fire units, rushed to the site to control the situation.
