AGP’s Birendra Prasad Baishya and BJP’s Kanad Purkayastha were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam, as no opposition candidates contested. Baishya was re-elected for a second term, while Purkayastha replaces Mission Ranjan Das. After his election, Baishya met CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who praised his experience. Minister Atul Bora highlighted Baishya’s past as Union Minister. Purkayastha, son of former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, stressed improving Barak Valley’s infrastructure and pledged to represent the region’s aspirations. He thanked BJP leaders for their support, emphasizing the party’s recognition of dedication and his long-standing association with it.
