The Washington Post is investigating a cyberattack that targeted the email accounts of some of its journalists, potentially involving a foreign government, according to a source and a Wall Street Journal report. The breach, discovered last Thursday, may have compromised Microsoft accounts and granted access to journalists’ work emails. Those affected include reporters covering national security and economic policy, particularly those reporting on China. Executive Editor Matt Murray confirmed the probe in an internal memo. This follows a 2022 cyberattack on News Corp, publisher of the WSJ, in which the email accounts and data of several journalists were also compromised.
