Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted on Tuesday, sending 10,000 metres of ash into the air and prompting authorities to raise the alert to the highest level. The eruption formed a massive mushroom-shaped ash cloud visible up to 150km away. The danger zone was expanded to 8km from the crater, though no immediate casualties or flight disruptions were reported. Residents were warned of potential lava flows during heavy rain. The volcano, a twin with Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, previously erupted in November, killing nine. Indonesia, located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” has 120 active volcanoes and frequent seismic activity.
