Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika chaired a high-level review meeting on the Jagiroad Integrated Satellite Township project, aimed at easing pressure on Guwahati through sustainable urban decentralization. Spanning 2,000 acres in Morigaon, including the defunct Nagaon Paper Mill site, the Rs 4,000 crore project is backed by ADB and Tata’s ₹27,000 crore semiconductor plant. Master-planned by Surbana Jurong, the township will blend industrial zones, green spaces, and community facilities. Hazarika emphasized timely execution, ecological preservation, and inclusion of local communities like the Tiwas. The government has already sanctioned ₹500 crore for infrastructure, with major development targeted within three years.
