The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has released ₹37 crore for the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme benefiting Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in Nagaland. The funds will be disbursed to eligible beneficiaries by the Scheme Implementing Agency after completing the necessary formalities.
The agency expressed appreciation for the proactive efforts of Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, in facilitating discussions with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, ensuring the timely release of scholarship funds. They also extended gratitude to Union Minister Jual Oram and other ministry officials for honoring their commitment to supporting tribal students' education.
In addition to the recent allocation, the Higher Education Department has been informed that the final installment of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Post-Matric Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year, amounting to ₹12.74 crore (1274.01 lakhs), has been cleared and is currently with the Finance Ministry. The installment is expected to be officially released on or before March 31, 2025.
Minister Temjen Imna Along met with Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram on March 24, 2025, to discuss the pending installment. During the meeting, Union Minister Oram assured that the final tranche of the scholarship funds would be released promptly, reaffirming the central government’s commitment to supporting higher education for ST students in Nagaland.
This financial assistance is expected to significantly benefit thousands of tribal students, helping them pursue higher education without financial constraints. The government’s continued focus on education and welfare programs highlights its commitment to empowering tribal communities through academic opportunities.
