The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt near the international border in South Garo Hills district, seizing 285 Yaba tablets that were being trafficked into Bangladesh.

Acting on specific intelligence, the 144 Battalion of the BSF launched an operation on March 28, conducting a thorough search of the area. During the operation, BSF personnel discovered a black plastic packet hidden near a tree. Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain 285 Yaba tablets, a highly addictive narcotic.

The seized contraband was handed over to Gasuapara Police Station, South Garo Hills (SGH), for further legal action.

BSF’s Continued Efforts Against Smuggling

The Border Security Force remains steadfast in its commitment to combating cross-border smuggling, ensuring the security of India’s frontiers and preventing the infiltration of illicit substances. This operation highlights the BSF’s vigilance and dedication in curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding local communities from its harmful effects.

In a separate operation on the same day, BSF Meghalaya, acting on intelligence inputs, rescued 19 cattle near the international border in West Jaintia Hills district. The cattle were suspected to be intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The rescued animals were handed over to the local police station for further legal proceedings.

The BSF continues to intensify border surveillance and enforcement actions, reinforcing its commitment to eliminating cross-border smuggling networks and maintaining law and order along the international boundary.
