The Indian Navy will commission its latest stealth frigate, INS Tamal, on July 1 at Kaliningrad, Russia. This marks the eighth Krivak-class frigate from Russia and the second of the Tushil class, featuring enhanced capabilities over earlier Talwar and Teg classes. Built at Yantar Shipyard with 26% indigenous content, Tamal includes BrahMos missiles, sonar, radars, and modern communication systems. It supports air warning and multi-role helicopters. The warship boasts high firepower, 30+ knot speed, and advanced electronic warfare systems. It’s likely the last foreign-built frigate as India moves toward defence self-reliance. Tamal completed three months of sea trials successfully.
