Assam Cabinet Grants Reserve Forest Status to Goalpara Wetlands to Enhance Biodiversity

On June 22, the Assam Cabinet, led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved key decisions across environment, social inclusion, and economic development. Notably, Urpad Beel and Hasila Beel in Goalpara will be declared Proposed Reserve Forests. The Cabinet launched the ‘Shradhanjali’ scheme for dignified transport of mortal remains, recognized transgenders as SEBC, and approved a 900 MW pumped storage project. It also announced a Rabha Development Council, reserved 50% Anganwadi supervisor posts for senior workers, raised cook-cum-helper honorarium, advanced teacher increments, and approved mineral trust rules. A ₹3,000 crore Green Growth Fund was also created to promote sustainable investment.
