In a significant crackdown on illegal timber trade, the Forest Department conducted a special operation in South Hengera, Golaghat, leading to the seizure of illegally stored timber worth ₹1.5 lakh and the arrest of an accused, Babul Ali.

Acting on a confidential tip-off, forest officials raided Ali’s residence, where they discovered a large stockpile of unauthorized timber. Sources revealed that he had been operating an illegal timber business for nearly a year without the required permits.

Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the larger network behind this illicit trade. Officials suspect that further inquiries could expose more individuals involved in the smuggling racket.

Meanwhile, Babul Ali remains in custody and is being interrogated to provide insights into the source and distribution of the seized timber. The Forest Department has assured that strict legal action will be taken against all those linked to the operation.

This successful raid marks a major step in ongoing efforts to combat illegal deforestation and timber smuggling in the region.
