Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced plans to establish drug de-addiction centres in all eight districts of the state, each costing ₹20 crore. At an event marking International Day Against Drug Abuse, he revealed the Centre has sanctioned ₹198 crore for a special de-addiction centre in Sepahijala district. Citing Tripura’s proximity to Bangladesh, Assam, and Mizoram, Saha noted its vulnerability to drug trafficking. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy and efforts for youth rehabilitation. The government is also preparing rules to regulate private de-addiction centres. Drug seizures increased by 103% and destruction of contraband by 132% over the past year.
