Acclaimed Assamese filmmaker Rima Das won the Best Director award at the New York Indian Film Festival for her film Village Rockstars 2. The film, produced by Flying River Films, Akanga Film Asia, and Bad Rabbit Pictures, depicts a teenage girl’s journey pursuing music dreams in rural Assam. Known for her minimalistic, locally rooted style, Das has previously won two National Film Awards. Her debut Village Rockstars (2017) gained national and international acclaim, becoming India’s first Assamese entry to the Oscars and winning Best Film and Best Editor at the National Awards. Rima Das celebrated her latest win on social media, congratulating fellow winners.
