The second wave of floods has severely affected Assam’s Lakhimpur district, damaging multiple roads and inundating vast areas due to continuous rainfall and rising river levels. The Gabharu River breached an agricultural bund at Rangajan-Mazgaon, flooding Tunijan, Dhekiajuli-Christiangaon, and Garmur village. Villages in Phoolbari, Pub Laluk, and Pukhuria were also submerged, with two culverts damaged. On Monday, the Sesa River overflowed, breaching the under-construction Simaluguri-Hawajan PWD road under the Assam Mala scheme. It entered several villages through a gap in the Sesa embankment. The floods also destroyed newly planted Sali paddy and other seedlings prepared for transplantation in affected areas.
