The Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, turned 90 and shared a heartfelt message urging compassion and inner peace. He described himself as a “simple Buddhist monk” and pledged to continue promoting human values, religious harmony, and Tibetan culture. Quoting Shantideva, he expressed his wish to serve humanity as long as life endures. Celebrations in McLeodganj included prayers, forums, and cultural events. The Dalai Lama also expressed hope to live another 30–40 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished him well, calling him a symbol of love, compassion, and moral discipline, and praised his universal message of peace and harmony.
