Ten central trade unions and their affiliates have called a Bharat Bandh on July 9 to protest the government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate” policies. Over 25 crore workers from various sectors including banking, mining, transport, and postal services are expected to participate. The unions allege that new labour codes weaken workers’ rights and collective bargaining, while economic policies have led to unemployment, inflation, and social inequality. They also oppose moves to privatize public enterprises and suppress democratic rights. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and rural workers' unions have extended support, aiming for mass mobilisation across rural India.
