Zonal Councils Now Driving Regional Cooperation: Amit Shah

At the 27th Eastern Zonal Council meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said zonal councils have evolved into "engines of cooperation," resolving 83% of issues discussed. The meeting included leaders from Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal. Key issues discussed were asset division between Bihar and Jharkhand, and disputes over dams and reservoirs. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren demanded over ₹1.4 lakh crore in pending dues from the Centre, mostly from Coal India subsidiaries. He opposed amendments to the CBA Act and urged proper mine closures to prevent illegal mining and accidents. Shah highlighted increased council meetings under the Modi government.
