Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the continuation of eviction drives, stating that over 25,000 acres of land have been cleared in four years. An upcoming drive in Goalpara will target 1,040 bighas of forest land, affecting 1,080 families. Sarma emphasized land rights for genuine, landless Indian citizens. He alleged demographic changes in districts like Lakhimpur and Dhubri due to migration. In Chapar, around 3,500 bighas were cleared for an Adani power plant, triggering clashes with alleged encroachers. Sarma reaffirmed the state’s commitment to reclaiming land, maintaining law and order, and launching developmental projects like the 3,400 MW power plant.
