As Bodoland gears up for the September 22 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, BTC chief and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro emphasized that the region is entering a new era characterized by peace, development, and inclusion after decades of unrest. Boro stressed that Bodoland must be part of the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat, arguing that sustained peace over the past five years has laid the foundation for development and progress in the region.

Boro highlighted that the previous Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) regime was marked by violence and authoritarianism. He pointed out that during the BPF tenure, elections were often accompanied by killings and unrest, whereas under his administration since 2020, all elections have been conducted peacefully, freely, and fairly, demonstrating that democratic processes can thrive in Bodoland. He also criticized former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, describing his tenure as akin to a dictatorship where democratic norms were ignored, and all control rested with the leadership. In contrast, Boro emphasized that his administration respects the Constitution and the rule of law, with proper implementation of legal and democratic provisions in the region.

A key focus of Boro’s administration has been addressing long-standing issues in Bodoland. He underscored that political will is critical to resolving problems neglected since independence. Over the last five years, the UPPL-led government identified and addressed burning issues faced by the local population, particularly land-related disputes, which were largely unresolved under previous administrations. Boro asserted that the people of Bodoland now see a realistic and hopeful future under the UPPL model of governance, built on commitment, transparency, and accountability.

In addition to development, Boro highlighted his administration’s inclusive approach, emphasizing the protection of the identity, culture, and traditions of all communities in Bodoland. The region comprises 3.5 million people across 26 communities, and his government has worked to ensure recognition and respect for all groups, fostering harmony and satisfaction among residents. He stressed that previous governments, including national parties, had failed to address these community concerns effectively.

Ahead of the elections, the UPPL organized a massive campaign rally in Mushalpur, Baksa district, drawing thousands of people. Boro noted that citizens attended the rally without fear, reflecting their confidence in peaceful political processes and the administration’s achievements. The rally served as a platform to highlight UPPL’s governance model, achievements, and vision for the region.

Boro’s message throughout the campaign stresses that Bodoland has moved past a history of violence and instability and is now ready to embrace development, peace, and democratic consolidation. He emphasized that the region has built the foundation for progress by fostering inclusivity, resolving longstanding disputes, and ensuring equitable growth for all communities.

Finally, Boro reaffirmed the significance of the upcoming BTC elections, noting that UPPL and BJP, which jointly formed the BTC government in 2020, are contesting independently this time. The elections will cover 40 council constituencies, with the outcome expected to shape Bodoland’s political and developmental trajectory. The campaign underlines UPPL’s commitment to continuing peace, ensuring development, and protecting cultural identity while strengthening democratic institutions in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

This comprehensive approach reflects Boro’s vision of a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Bodoland aligned with national development goals while addressing the unique needs and aspirations of its diverse communities.
