PM Modi to Inaugurate Projects Worth ₹18,531 Crore in Assam on September 14

Assam is poised for a significant boost in healthcare and infrastructure with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit the state on September 14 to lay the foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 18,000 crore. The visit underscores the central government’s commitment to the state’s development across multiple sectors. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, after reviewing preparations in Mangaldoi, confirmed that the Prime Minister will arrive at 11 am to inaugurate key initiatives.

The healthcare sector will see major development with the foundation stone of Darrang Medical College being laid, along with a nursing college and a GNM school. The combined investment in these healthcare projects amounts to Rs 567 crore, emphasizing the government’s focus on improving medical education and healthcare facilities in Assam. These projects are expected to enhance accessibility to quality healthcare services and provide advanced education opportunities for aspiring medical professionals in the state.

In addition to healthcare initiatives, PM Modi will also lay the foundation for the Narengi–Kuruwa bridge, a strategic connectivity project aimed at facilitating smoother travel and accelerating regional development. The most significant highlight of the visit will be the Guwahati Ring Road project, which spans Kamrup, Darrang, and Ri-Bhoi districts and carries an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore. This major infrastructure project is expected to significantly improve traffic management, reduce congestion, and enhance regional connectivity, boosting trade and commerce in Assam.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit are in full swing and expressed confidence in the successful execution of the planned events. Beyond infrastructural and developmental initiatives, Sarma also addressed political issues, notably the demands of six communities seeking Scheduled Tribe (ST) recognition. He stated that the government is taking a positive approach toward these communities, and a memorandum will be submitted during the November session of the State Legislative Assembly. This move is intended to ensure that recognition is provided responsibly and progressively, with attention to fairness and social justice.

Sarma highlighted the changing political dynamics in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), noting BJP’s growing presence in areas previously dominated by the UPPL and BPF. He stressed that BJP is contesting responsibly to maintain peace and stability before and after elections. The Chief Minister also clarified misconceptions about certain political leaders switching affiliations, noting that Binanda Saikia has never been with BJP during his five-year tenure, while Maan Singh Rongpi and Satyabrata Saikia are contributing to other parties. He emphasized that even if they were present, tickets could not have been allotted to them due to existing sitting MLAs in the respective constituencies.
