On September 15, during the 58th Engineer’s Day celebrations at Pragya Bhavan, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the crucial role of engineers in the state’s growth and development. Addressing a gathering of professionals and dignitaries, Saha paid tribute to Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya, acknowledging the vital contributions engineers make, particularly in infrastructure. He noted that progress is impossible without their expertise and underscored the indispensable nature of their work in shaping modern society and economic growth.
Linking his remarks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, Saha stressed that Tripura is also aligned with this long-term developmental goal. He highlighted that the state has embarked on a similar path to become a developed region by 2047 and currently ranks fifth nationally in terms of development indices, showing the progress already achieved and the potential for further growth. Saha emphasized that engineers are at the forefront of achieving this vision, as they are central to planning, executing, and maintaining developmental projects across the state.
Saha highlighted several key educational institutions that are shaping the state’s technical workforce. Institutions such as the Tripura Institute of Technology, NIT, IIIT, ICFAI University, and Techno India were noted for their pivotal role in training skilled professionals who can contribute effectively to the state’s development. By nurturing young talent and providing quality technical education, these institutions are producing engineers capable of addressing modern challenges in infrastructure, technology, and governance.
The Chief Minister also underlined the financial commitments made in the Union Budget for infrastructure development, pointing out that nearly Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated for projects spanning roads, bridges, and digital systems. He emphasized that the growing complexity of modern infrastructure and rapid technological advancement have increased the responsibilities and expectations from engineers. Through their expertise, initiatives such as e-offices have been implemented across all levels of governance in Tripura—from the state cabinet to local panchayats—streamlining administrative processes and enhancing efficiency.
Saha also highlighted the importance of the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. He noted that approximately 2.1 lakh entrepreneurs are registered under the MSME sector in Tripura, reflecting the growing culture of innovation and enterprise. He encouraged engineers to leverage emerging technologies such as drones and artificial intelligence (AI) to contribute to various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and industry, thereby creating new avenues for growth and social development.
Concluding his address, Saha urged engineers to focus on utilizing local resources to improve livelihoods, enhance per capita income, and boost Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). He called upon them to commit to the state’s progress on Engineer’s Day, emphasizing that their role is central not only in technical and infrastructural development but also in social and economic advancement. By combining technical expertise with innovative solutions, engineers can help Tripura achieve sustainable development and align with India’s broader vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Through his speech, Chief Minister Manik Saha reinforced the message that engineers are indispensable to Tripura’s growth, urging them to continue contributing to infrastructure, governance, entrepreneurship, and technological innovation, thereby shaping a prosperous and forward-looking state.
