Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar soaked in the scenic beauty, pleasant weather, and warm hospitality of Meghalaya during his visit to the state on March 7. Accompanied by his wife, daughter, and a few close friends, Tendulkar is currently enjoying a family vacation in the Northeast.
The Master Blaster explored some of Meghalaya’s most iconic locations, including Sohra—renowned as the world’s wettest place—and Mawlynnong, celebrated as Asia’s cleanest village, both situated in the picturesque East Khasi Hills district.
"Everywhere he went, fans eagerly lined up for selfies, and Sachin greeted them all with a smile,” said an official accompanying him. “He was bowled over by the weather, the simplicity of the people, their incredible hospitality, and the delicious food.”
Tendulkar’s visit to Mawlynnong was especially memorable, drawing excitement from local children and fans. The village, known for its bamboo skywalk, lush orchards, traditional Khasi homes, and a nearby living root bridge in Nohwet, offered a perfect blend of nature and culture.
During his stay, Tendulkar dined at the Marriott Hotel, where he was served a special menu curated by MasterChef India finalist Nambie Marak. Representing the flavours of the Garo tribe, Nambie expressed her excitement on Instagram:
“Some moments are etched in your heart forever — this was one of them. I had the incredible honour of cooking for the legend, @sachintendulkar,” she wrote. She described him as calm, kind, and humble, and even shared that he showed her how to take a better selfie. “It still feels surreal. Some dreams do come true. This one came with goosebumps,” she added.
Tendulkar and his family also enjoyed a quiet picnic near their private resort overlooking the scenic Umiam Lake. Before heading to Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, he is expected to share a high tea with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
The cricket icon is scheduled to return to Mumbai on April 9.
