Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Voices Concern Over Declining Number of Educated Youths Clearing Recruitment Exams

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has raised serious concerns over the declining trend of educated Mizo youths failing to clear recruitment exams, including those for state government positions. In his address to the general conference of the Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) in Hnahthial town, Lalduhoma expressed worry over the inability of young aspirants to secure employment, both at the state and national levels. He emphasized that this trend is alarming for the state’s development and urged students to adopt a more disciplined, focused, and goal-oriented approach toward their studies and career preparation.

Highlighting specific instances, Lalduhoma pointed to the low turnout of Mizo candidates at a recent Border Security Force (BSF) recruitment rally as a “serious concern.” He noted that Mizo students’ repeated failures to clear exams, even for state government jobs, signal the need for greater commitment, hard work, and strategic planning. Lalduhoma urged students to not solely depend on government jobs but also explore opportunities in entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-employment to secure their futures and contribute to the state’s economy.

To further empower students academically, the Chief Minister encouraged enrolment in centrally-run institutions like the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV). According to him, these institutions offer superior academic exposure, advanced learning methodologies, and competitive environments that can significantly enhance students’ performance in recruitment exams and other professional endeavors. Such measures are expected to broaden students’ perspectives and prepare them for challenges at both state and national levels.

In a move to boost practical learning experiences, Lalduhoma announced a special budgetary provision for the next fiscal year to fund educational study tours for students. This initiative aims to complement classroom learning, exposing students to real-world experiences, diverse career opportunities, and skill development programs. Lalduhoma stressed that hands-on exposure, along with theoretical knowledge, can play a vital role in equipping students to face competitive exams and professional challenges with confidence.

Transparency in recruitment was another major point addressed by the Chief Minister. He stated that henceforth, all direct recruitment vacancies under the state government would be publicly advertised to ensure fairness, equal opportunity, and accountability in the hiring process. This decision is expected to increase participation, improve access to information, and encourage more candidates to compete for state jobs.

Lalduhoma also highlighted the government’s commitment to employment creation. Under the current Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) administration, 2,087 job vacancies have already been approved for direct recruitment. Candidates selected through this process would also be eligible for future regularization, providing long-term career security.

In conclusion, Lalduhoma’s address reflected both concern and proactive measures to strengthen youth participation in recruitment processes. By combining rigorous academic preparation, encouragement toward entrepreneurship, enrollment in high-quality institutions, and transparent recruitment practices, the Mizoram government aims to empower educated youths, enhance their competitiveness, and ensure they contribute effectively to the state’s growth. The CM’s message underscores the importance of dedication, hard work, and strategic planning for young Mizos aspiring to secure government positions and professional success, ensuring a brighter future for both the individuals and the state.
