The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has released an official statement to combat extensive speculation and misinformation regarding the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The 52-year-old singer was discovered dead floating face down in the sea on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. Garg was in Singapore to host the three-day North East India Festival (NEIF), which was to kick off on September 20 but was later canceled due to his demise.

Based on SPF, the case is under investigation under the **Coroners Act 2010**, and initial findings suggest that **no foul play is suspected**. The police reinforced that there is a proper and professional investigation, which could take **three more months** to conclude. At the end of the inquiry, its findings will be presented to the **State Coroner**, who will decide if a **Coroner's Inquiry (CI)**, a judicial fact-finding inquiry into the cause and circumstances of death, will be held. The Coroner's report will be made public after the process is finalized.

In spite of the investigation in progress, SPF made the **autopsy report** and initial findings available to the **High Commission of India in Singapore** on October 1, 2025, in response to their request. The police reaffirmed their pledge of **transparency and due process**, appealing to the public to have patience and refrain from posting unsubstantiated news on the Internet. "We ask for the patience and understanding of all parties involved," the announcement stated, guaranteeing that the investigation will proceed with diligence and impartiality.

The SPF clarification follows widespread public speculation and disinformation online. The authorities emphasized that the investigation into the incident is ongoing professionally and impartially, as testifies the gravity of the investigation.

After Garg's death, **his boss Siddhartha Sharma** and **NEIF chief organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta** were arrested in relation to the case. In Assam, Chief Minister **Himanta Biswa Sarma** revealed that there would be a **10-member committee** to probe the events leading to the singer's death. The state government has also resolved to pursue a **fast-track court trial**, asking the **Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court** to fast-track the case. A **special public prosecutor** will be assigned to handle the case, with a view to speedy and efficient judicial action.

Singapore police will be meeting a delegation of Assam officials, headed by **Special DGP and SIT head Munna Prasad Gupta**, on October 21 to discuss coordination and updates on the investigation. This cross-border operation highlights the significance of collective action in cases of Indian nationals abroad.

The unexpected demise of Zubeen Garg left fans in India and Assamese diaspora stunned, pointing to the need for cautious management of delicate information in the course of still-pending investigations. The authorities called on the media and the public to be restrained from guessing, reiterating that the investigation continues and that all discoveries will be made available officially once ascertained.

In short, the Singapore Police Force has made it clear that **no foul play is suspected** in Zubeen Garg's death, and a very thorough investigation is ongoing under the Coroners Act. With Singaporean and Assam officials working together, the investigation is seeking to provide a fair, open, and thorough inquiry into the circumstances of the untimely death of the singer. Simultaneously, court processes in India are being lined up to allow for prompt judicial examination of the people arrested over their links to the case, a show of both nations' dedication to justice and accountability.
