In a joint operation, the Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force seized foreign-origin liquor worth ₹2.52 lakh in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The operation was carried out in the general area of Ngur on April 10, following specific intelligence inputs about liquor trafficking in the region.
The joint patrol team launched an area domination exercise and discovered 21 cases of Dagon Beer, a foreign liquor brand, hidden in the jungle near Ngur. The alcohol had been dumped and concealed to evade detection. The recovered liquor was later handed over to the Customs Preventive Force in Champhai for further legal action.
This seizure comes amid increasing concerns about smuggling and drug trafficking across the Indo-Myanmar border, which has become a major challenge for the state authorities.
In a related development, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Director General Anurag Garg in Aizawl on Tuesday to discuss the state’s ongoing struggle against the rising drug menace. During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the need to enhance border security infrastructure and increase manpower to effectively monitor and control the drug inflow from across the international border.
Lalduhoma also informed the NCB chief about the state government’s appeal to the Central Government for the creation of a Mizo Territorial Army under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The proposed force is expected to support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the sensitive border areas.
Director General Anurag Garg responded positively, highlighting the potential benefits of setting up a fully functional Zonal Office of the NCB in Mizoram. He also emphasized the importance of expanding the agency’s workforce in the region to strengthen its fight against drug trafficking and related crimes.
