Pakistani troops have once again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, resorting to unprovoked firing during the night of April 27-28. This marks the fourth consecutive night of such violations. According to the Indian Army, Pakistan Army posts initiated small arms fire across the LoC, specifically targeting areas opposite the Kupwara and Poonch districts. In response, the Indian Army swiftly and effectively returned fire. This incident is significant as it is the first time that the Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire in the Poonch sector.

The recent flare-up in hostilities between Indian and Pakistani troops follows the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The attack has been identified as one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack. In the aftermath, relations between India and Pakistan have severely deteriorated, particularly after it was revealed that a terror group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was involved in the attack. This revelation has further strained the already tense relationship between the two countries.

In response to the terror attack and the ongoing violations of the ceasefire, India has implemented a series of stringent measures against Pakistan. These actions include the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, which is a direct diplomatic move to signal discontent with Pakistan’s involvement in the attack. Additionally, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a vital agreement between the two countries that has been in place for more than six decades. Furthermore, the Attari land-transit post, a major trade route between India and Pakistan, has been immediately shut down as part of India's efforts to curb any further engagements with Pakistan.

These decisions were taken following a meeting of India’s Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, it was decided that India would pursue an aggressive strategy to identify, track, and punish the terrorists and their backers responsible for the Pahalgam attack. Prime Minister Modi has made it clear that India will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of this horrific attack to justice. India has expressed its commitment to safeguarding its citizens and upholding national security, and the latest actions are a reflection of this stance.

On the diplomatic front, Pakistan has also retaliated by suspending all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement, which was a key framework for maintaining peace between the two nations after the 1971 war. This suspension further complicates the already volatile relationship between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

As the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack intensifies, the Jammu and Kashmir police have released sketches of three terrorists suspected of being involved. The individuals have been identified as Hashim Musa, alias Suleman, and Ali Bhai, alias Talha Bhai, both residents of Pakistan, and Adil Hussain Thoker, a native of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir. These suspects are now key figures in the ongoing investigation, which aims to uncover the full extent of the terror plot and its connections to Pakistan-based terror organizations.
