At least 19 people have been arrested across Assam for allegedly expressing "pro-Pakistan" sentiments on social media and other platforms, as confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The latest wave of arrests includes individuals such as Jarif Ali, detained in Barpeta district, and Imran Hussain and Komar Uddin, arrested from Cachar district. Chief Minister Sarma referred to these individuals as "traitors" and stated that the government would continue to take strict action against any activity deemed anti-national. The crackdown is part of a larger effort to maintain national security and uphold the integrity of the state.

One of the most notable arrests was that of AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, who was the first high-profile individual to be apprehended under the state’s crackdown. Islam was accused of making pro-Pakistan statements, and his arrest drew significant attention. In addition to this, Sarma revealed that Assam authorities had identified a Pakistani citizen residing in Tinsukia for several years. The individual, who had married a local, had applied for a long-term visa. Sarma stated that the government had sought guidance from the Government of India on whether the individual should be deported or allowed to remain in the country.

The issue of illegal immigrants and border security has also been a focus of the state government, particularly along the India-Bangladesh border. Sarma emphasized that security forces have heightened vigilance in the area due to recent unrest in Bangladesh, which has led to an increase in cross-border movement. As part of these enhanced security measures, a joint operation between the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Dhubri district resulted in the arrest and pushback of five Bangladeshi nationals. The arrested individuals, identified as Roni Seikh, Rinki Seikh, Yasin Seikh, and two minors, were caught attempting to cross the border illegally. The authorities have also made significant strides in detecting illegal immigrants, although Sarma pointed out that, notably, no Hindu infiltrators from Bangladesh had been arrested over the past five months.

The state’s heightened security measures are seen as crucial in safeguarding the region’s integrity, particularly in the context of growing concerns over illegal immigration. The chief minister reassured the public that Assam authorities would continue to act decisively against any illegal activities and were actively working to ensure the safety and security of the region. With rising tensions over national security issues, including the presence of individuals with alleged pro-Pakistan sentiments, the state government is committed to maintaining law and order.

Sarma’s statement on the increased vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border reflects the government’s broader strategy to protect Assam’s borders from potential security threats. The crackdown on individuals expressing pro-Pakistan views is just one component of the government’s larger effort to strengthen security measures across the state. Sarma’s announcement regarding the Pakistani national in Tinsukia also underscores the government's vigilance in monitoring foreign nationals and their activities within the state.

In conclusion, the crackdown on pro-Pakistan sentiments and illegal immigration is a part of Assam's ongoing efforts to bolster national security. The arrests of individuals suspected of supporting terrorism or harboring anti-national views, along with increased vigilance on the state’s borders, highlight the government’s commitment to protecting the state and maintaining the integrity of the nation. The authorities remain determined to take all necessary steps to prevent any threats from emerging, while also ensuring that security and vigilance remain at the highest levels.
