Pakistani troops have continued unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth consecutive night, targeting multiple locations including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, and Akhnoor sectors. According to Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal, PRO (Defence), Northern Command, the most recent firing occurred during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, with Pakistani forces engaging in small arms fire from across the LoC.
The Indian Army responded to the provocation in a measured and effective manner, ensuring no escalation while maintaining vigilance. These unprovoked firing incidents follow a pattern that began on Thursday night, shortly after India announced the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. The treaty suspension came in the wake of a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
On the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts again initiated small arms fire across the LoC, targeting areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Despite repeated provocations, there have been no reported casualties on the Indian side.
The Indian Army continues to monitor the situation closely, responding appropriately to maintain security and stability in the region. The ongoing ceasefire violations are being seen as attempts by Pakistan to provoke a reaction amid rising tensions following the Pahalgam terror incident and the subsequent diplomatic fallout.
The escalation in firing highlights the fragile nature of peace along the LoC and the constant pressure faced by security forces in border regions. With continued vigilance and a firm response strategy, the Indian Army is committed to ensuring the safety of its personnel and civilians living in border areas, while avoiding unnecessary escalation of hostilities.
