Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and IBM have announced a strategic partnership to advance India’s quantum industry, aligning with the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious Quantum Valley Tech Park initiative in Amaravati. This first-of-its-kind park will feature the IBM Quantum System Two, housing India’s largest quantum computer—a 156-qubit Heron processor. This installation will serve as the technological backbone of the park, fostering a national ecosystem of quantum innovation.

TCS and IBM aim to collaboratively develop quantum algorithms and applications designed to address complex challenges facing India’s industries and academic institutions. The partnership supports the broader objective of India’s National Quantum Mission, which seeks to position the country as a global hub for quantum technology. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the state's commitment to becoming a frontrunner in the global quantum revolution, underlining the state’s goal to make the Quantum Valley the foundation of its economic future. He noted that quantum computing, with its potential to transform major sectors over the next quarter-century, will be critical for the state’s progress and competitiveness.

Alongside IBM, TCS, and L&T, the Quantum Valley Technology Park will symbolize India’s forward momentum in the global quantum space. The initiative aims to encourage close collaboration between academia and industry, propelling India toward achieving significant milestones in quantum advantage. IBM Vice President Jay Gambetta highlighted the importance of deploying the IBM Quantum System Two in Andhra Pradesh, expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration with TCS. He stated that this partnership is expected to energize India’s robust ecosystem of scientists, developers, and industry professionals, accelerating innovation and facilitating the demonstration of quantum advantage.

The park will offer members, including researchers and developers, the opportunity to access IBM’s cloud-based quantum systems. TCS, in particular, will play a key role by leveraging its Hybrid Computing strategy, which is designed to intelligently distribute tasks across traditional CPUs, GPUs, and emerging architectures like quantum computers. Dr. Harrick Vin, CTO of TCS, said this approach is key to tackling computationally intractable problems, with quantum computing acting as a critical enabler.

This initiative will create a vibrant quantum ecosystem that includes research, real-world applications, and access to cutting-edge quantum technology. The Government of Andhra Pradesh anticipates the initiative will lead to the creation of high-end jobs, attract world-class talent, and draw significant global investments. TCS will also be responsible for advancing applied research across a range of domains, including life sciences, material science, energy optimization, cryptography, supply chain resilience, and sustainable manufacturing.

The ultimate objective is to enable breakthroughs that offer quantum advantage—solving complex industrial problems that are currently unsolvable using classical computing methods. Through this collaboration, experts from TCS, Indian industries, and academic institutions will gain unprecedented access to IBM’s quantum resources, catalyzing innovation and establishing India as a leader in the global quantum technology landscape.
