Guwahati Tragedy: 10-Year-Old’s Body Found in Trolley Bag, Mother and Her Partner Arrested

In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, the body of a 10-year-old boy named Mrinmoy Rajbongshi was discovered stuffed inside a trolley bag in Guwahati’s Basistha area on Sunday. The child had gone missing a day earlier from the Beltola locality. His mother, Dipali Rajbongshi, had filed a missing person complaint at the Dispur police station on Saturday, stating that her son had vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Following the recovery of the body, police investigations revealed that Jitumani Haloi, a Grade-IV central government employee, was allegedly involved in the murder. He is suspected to have been in a relationship with Dipali, who had recently separated from Mrinmoy’s father. The case took a sinister turn when Jitumani was apprehended by the police and reportedly confessed to the crime.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Mrinal Deka, Jitumani had picked up the boy after his tuition class on Saturday and later murdered him. In the cover of night, he disposed of the body by dumping it in a trolley bag on the roadside in Basistha. His gruesome actions shocked the community and led to swift police action.

Dipali Rajbongshi’s role in the incident is currently under investigation. It is alleged that she may have been complicit in the murder. Reports suggest that as part of a premeditated plan, she lodged the missing complaint to divert attention and mislead the authorities. The police have detained her for questioning but have not yet confirmed the extent of her involvement in the crime.

Mrinmoy Rajbongshi was a Class V student at Jatiya Navoday School in Beltola. He lived with his mother in a rented house in Guwahati’s Six Mile area. His school bag was found near the location where his body was recovered, further confirming the identity of the victim and establishing the timeline of events.

After recovering the body, police took Jitumani Haloi to the crime scene to reconstruct the sequence of events. His confession and presence at the site were crucial in piecing together the details of the murder.

Dipali Rajbongshi is employed in a private firm, and both she and Jitumani were known to each other, which raises questions about the motive behind such a heinous crime.
