On Monday night, the Indian Army reported that a "small number of suspected drones" were being engaged near Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, urging the public not to panic. As a result, a blackout was enforced in the Samba sector, according to local officials. The blackout was part of security measures taken in response to suspected drone activity, with no immediate threat identified. The blackout serves as a precautionary measure, ensuring safety during potential drone operations or border-related security risks.

The situation also extended to Jammu’s Akhnoor region, where a similar blackout occurred as cross-border firing took place in the Kanachak, Pargwal, and Keri Battal areas. These areas, which lie near the international border with Pakistan, are regularly subjected to military tensions and cross-border skirmishes. The Indian Army and security forces were actively involved in the response to the escalating situation.

In addition to Jammu, authorities in Punjab’s Amritsar and Hoshiarpur regions implemented blackouts as part of the heightened security measures. The District Collector of Amritsar confirmed that the blackout was carried out following an alert received by local authorities. According to the collector, the blackout was a necessary precaution in line with established protocols, and citizens were advised to stay indoors until further notice. The blackout was not intended to create alarm but to ensure public safety during a potentially unstable situation.

In Hoshiarpur, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain confirmed that there was a complete blackout in the Mukerian and Dasuya subdivisions of the district. These precautions were implemented after receiving advice from the Army, as these areas are close to the border and may be more vulnerable to security threats. Power supply was temporarily disconnected to limit exposure to any possible security risks from border-related activities or drone operations.

The entire response across the regions highlights the active coordination between military and civil authorities, with the overarching objective being to minimize risk and ensure the safety of the public. While there was no immediate confirmation of a significant threat, the actions taken, including the blackout and the advisory for citizens to stay indoors, reflect the seriousness with which authorities approached the potential security threat posed by the drones and cross-border firing. The Indian Army continues to monitor the situation closely, and the blackouts are seen as temporary measures until the situation stabilizes.

The events highlight the delicate security environment in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in the bordering areas of Punjab. Both regions are frequently impacted by military tensions, with the authorities taking swift and decisive actions to prevent escalation. The residents have been urged to remain calm and follow the safety instructions provided by local officials. As of now, no major incidents have been reported, and the authorities are taking every precaution to avoid any harm to civilians or further escalation.
