On May 13, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the results of the 2025 Assam Panchayat Elections reflect a strong wave of support for the ruling NDA government. Addressing the media at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Basistha Chariali, Guwahati, Sarma highlighted the results as an indication of “pro-incumbency,” showcasing people’s continued trust in the leadership and development agenda of the NDA.

Comparing the 2025 outcome to the 2018 Panchayat elections, the Chief Minister emphasized a substantial improvement in both seat count and vote share. He noted that the NDA saw a rise of over 26 percent in its overall performance. This surge comes just a year after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and a year ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, which he believes indicates strong grassroots support for the current government.

Breaking down the results, Sarma reported that the NDA secured 300 out of 397 seats in the Zila Parishad elections, translating to 76.22 percent of the vote share. In the Anchalik Panchayat elections, the alliance won 1,436 out of 2,192 seats, with a 66 percent vote share. This marks a notable improvement from the 2018 elections, when the NDA had won 231 Zila Parishad and 1,143 Anchalik Panchayat seats.

Sarma asserted that these results go beyond numbers—they reflect the people’s confidence in the governance model of the NDA. He thanked the people of Assam for their support, stating, “Thank you, Assam! The people’s mandate is a clear endorsement of our welfare-driven governance. It is a strong show of faith as we move towards the 2026 Assembly elections.”

The Chief Minister also attributed the victory to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the continuous support of senior BJP leaders like J.P. Nadda, Amit Shah, and B.L. Santhosh. He acknowledged their contributions during the campaign and stated that Team NDA’s sweeping success would not have been possible without their guidance and efforts.

Calling the people’s mandate a powerful message, Sarma said that it reinforces the government's responsibility to fulfill its promises and continue delivering development. He emphasized that the state leadership is more committed than ever to working towards the vision of a prosperous and strong Assam.

Sarma concluded by saying that this victory is not just for the party but for the collective vision of a developed Assam. He reassured that the government would work with full dedication to serve every citizen and continue improving the state's infrastructure, economy, and quality of life.

The 2025 Panchayat results, with their strong pro-incumbency message and widespread support in rural areas, are being seen as a major boost for the ruling NDA ahead of the critical 2026 Assembly polls. The outcome signals public endorsement of the state’s current leadership and its governance approach, especially in rural development, social welfare, and infrastructure enhancement.
