Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the evening of May 27 at around 6:30 PM to discuss the continuing crisis in the state. The meeting was held to review and deliberate on key issues affecting Manipur, including prolonged unrest, internal displacement, and the administrative challenges posed by illegal immigration. The discussion took place at a critical time, as the region continues to grapple with social and political instability.

Following the meeting, Biren Singh addressed the media at his residence in Luwangsangbam, Imphal East. He shared that he had thoroughly briefed the Governor on the prevailing law and order situation, drawing attention to significant concerns related to the crisis. He said the Governor patiently listened to all the points raised and was expected to initiate necessary measures, including direct engagement with agitators and stakeholders involved in the current unrest.

One of the central issues raised during the discussion was the condition of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Singh highlighted that a large number of people have been forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing violence and ethnic tensions. Many of them are currently living in relief camps or temporary shelters without basic amenities. He urged the Governor to take steps toward rehabilitating these individuals and restoring their sense of security and stability.

Another major point of concern raised was the continued suffering of valley residents due to the prolonged closure of national highways. According to Singh, these key roadways have been blocked for almost two years, cutting off access to essential goods and services and severely impacting daily life and the economy. He emphasized the urgency of restoring these routes to ease the burden on the general population.

In addition, Singh advocated for the disarmament of miscreants and armed groups, which he believes is vital to restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. He stressed that the presence of illegal weapons and continued activities by armed elements are major impediments to achieving long-term peace.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on the issue of illegal immigration from neighboring countries. Singh expressed strong support for the Ministry of Home Affairs' recent initiative to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. The ministry has set a 30-day deadline for completing this identification process. Singh welcomed this step and noted its importance in preserving the state's demographic balance and national security.

He also handed over a memorandum to the Governor detailing the Manipur government's initiatives in identifying illegal immigrants and addressing the challenges associated with this issue. The memorandum included data, strategies, and ongoing efforts to ensure proper documentation and action against those residing illegally in the state.

In conclusion, Biren Singh’s meeting with the Governor marked an important step in highlighting urgent matters that demand both administrative attention and immediate action. From displacement and disarmament to illegal immigration, Singh's comprehensive briefing aimed at steering the state toward a path of recovery, stability, and peace. The Governor’s response and subsequent actions will be crucial in addressing these multi-faceted challenges in Manipur.
