Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan on Thursday in Sepahijala district, emphasizing the importance of technology-driven solutions to enhance agricultural productivity. This initiative forms part of the broader national campaign, the Viksit Sankalp Yatra, which aims to integrate farmers with modern agricultural practices, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
At the launch event held in Bishramganj, Saha explained that the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the Viksit Sankalp Yatra. The campaign encourages farmers to adopt scientific methods and expert advice to increase crop yield and agricultural efficiency. Saha highlighted the transformative potential of AI in agriculture, citing practical examples such as pineapple farmers who now receive precise weather alerts. These alerts help farmers take proactive steps to safeguard their crops from adverse weather conditions.
Saha also pointed out that pest control in rubber plantations could be significantly improved through drone technology. He noted that drones could detect and help manage pest infections early, thereby benefiting rubber farmers substantially. This exemplifies the government’s push toward digitizing and modernizing farming practices to address long-standing challenges in agriculture.
The Chief Minister underscored that technology is already making a tangible difference on the ground. Under the Digital Krishi Mission, farmers have better access to seeds that are specifically suited to their regional conditions, which helps improve crop quality and yield. The government is also focused on enhancing the overall quality of agricultural produce through continuous support and innovation.
Highlighting the economic impact of these initiatives, Saha shared encouraging data on farmers’ incomes in Tripura. The average monthly income of farmers has more than doubled over the past decade, rising from ₹6,580 in 2015-16 to ₹13,590 in 2025-26. He credited this growth to various government schemes, including the disbursal of ₹848.64 crore under the PM Kisan Yojana and ₹446 crore allocated for paddy cultivation. These financial supports have played a key role in improving the livelihoods of farmers in the state.
Tripura, with around 4.72 lakh mostly marginal farmers, has emerged as a focal point for agricultural investments. Saha revealed that the state attracted nearly half of the ₹30,000 crore worth of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the Rising Northeast Conclave held in New Delhi, signaling strong investor confidence in Tripura’s agricultural sector.
Modernization efforts extend beyond farming techniques to agricultural markets as well. The state government has invested ₹303 crore to upgrade 144 agricultural markets. These improvements aim to provide farmers with hassle-free facilities to sell their produce, ensuring better market access and fair prices.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath attended the launch event alongside the Chief Minister, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to making agriculture a key driver of Tripura’s economic growth. The combined focus on technology adoption, farmer welfare schemes, market modernization, and investment attraction reflects a comprehensive strategy to transform Tripura’s agricultural landscape and improve the socio-economic status of its farming community.
In summary, the launch of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in Tripura marks a significant step towards tech-enabled agriculture. By integrating AI and other advanced technologies, providing tailored inputs, and strengthening market infrastructure, the state aims to boost productivity, increase farmer incomes, and establish agriculture as a cornerstone of its development agenda. This initiative mirrors the Prime Minister’s vision of a progressive and prosperous rural India driven by innovation and scientific farming.
