The Assam state Cabinet has taken a landmark decision to approve the establishment of Swahid Kanaklata Barua University at the Bholaguri Tea Estate in Gohpur, aiming to significantly enhance the higher education infrastructure in the region. This ambitious project, with an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore, was formally announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following a Cabinet meeting held on June 4. The affected residents will be relocated to nearby areas and assured job opportunities in third and fourth-grade positions, alongside benefits under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).
