Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the 'Lovlina Boxing Academy' on June 5 at Borchandra in North Guwahati, marking a significant moment for the state's sports infrastructure and development. The academy is named after Lovlina Borgohain, the Olympic bronze medallist and one of Assam's most celebrated sportspersons. Designed as a high-performance centre, the academy aims to nurture and train the next generation of boxing talent in the state with the help of modern facilities and professional guidance.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, dignitaries, and young athletes. In his speech, CM Sarma praised Lovlina for her unwavering determination, calling her a symbol of perseverance, dedication, and pride for both Assam and the country. He highlighted that Assam’s young and emerging boxers now have access to a dedicated and state-of-the-art platform to pursue their boxing dreams and compete at national and international levels.

Sharing his thoughts on social media platform ‘X’, Sarma wrote that the academy, under Lovlina’s leadership, is equipped with modern training infrastructure that will play a pivotal role in preparing youth for global competitions. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to strengthening sports in Assam and empowering athletes through systematic support.

To further enhance the academy’s potential, the Assam government has sanctioned a financial grant of ₹2 crore through the Department of Sports. These funds will be used for infrastructure development, including the construction of a residential hostel to accommodate trainees. The initiative aims to provide a focused and comfortable environment for athletes to train effectively without logistical concerns.

To ensure inclusivity and affordability, the government has set a nominal training fee of ₹500, making the facility accessible to aspiring boxers from all economic backgrounds. This move has been widely appreciated by the sporting community and is seen as a step toward equitable sports development.

An emotional Lovlina Borgohain expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister during the inauguration. She shared that the academy was the realization of a long-cherished dream and a crucial step in her mission to give back to the community that supported her journey. Lovlina thanked the CM for his unwavering support, stating that the academy would not only shape future champions but also serve as a symbol of hope and determination for youth across Assam.

She emphasized the role the facility would play in transforming rural and urban talent into professional athletes and pledged to contribute actively to the coaching and mentoring of upcoming boxers. Her vision is to turn the academy into a national-level boxing hub that can make Assam and India proud in global sporting events.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the Lovlina Boxing Academy signifies a turning point in Assam’s sports landscape. It represents the convergence of government support, individual excellence, and community involvement — all working together to empower the state’s youth and produce future sporting champions.
