The Assam Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, convened a significant meeting on Tuesday, June 10, at Lok Sewa Bhawan, during which several pivotal decisions were made across multiple departments. These decisions addressed key areas such as healthcare, land reforms, environmental governance, and cultural recognition, marking a proactive approach to holistic state development.
A major highlight from the meeting was the Cabinet’s approval of an increase in the monthly fixed honorarium for ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers and ASHA supervisors, with effect from October 1, 2025. The honorarium for ASHA workers will be raised from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000, while ASHA supervisors will see an increment from ₹9,000 to ₹10,200. Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal emphasized that this hike is a recognition of the vital and tireless contributions made by grassroots health workers, especially in remote and underserved areas. The move is expected to further motivate frontline healthcare personnel and enhance the delivery of basic health services across Assam.
In another key decision aimed at institutional development and public infrastructure enhancement, the Cabinet approved a large-scale land allotment under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. A total of 1,011 non-individual juridical entities—comprising religious, cultural, educational, and social institutions—will receive land in four districts: Sonitpur (464 institutions), Golaghat (306), Majuli (205), and Kamrup (36). This initiative seeks to formalize land rights and support long-term institutional development at the community level.
Further, the Cabinet also sanctioned land allotments for 146 government infrastructure-based projects under the same mission. These include the construction of schools, offices, health centres, and Anganwadi Centres. The districts of Sonitpur and Golaghat alone account for 108 and 38 of these projects, respectively. This decision underlines the government’s commitment to equitable infrastructure expansion in both urban and rural areas, promoting regional balance and accessibility to essential services.
Environmental governance reforms also took center stage during the meeting. The Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change received approval to officially rename the existing Pollution Control Board, Assam, to "Assam Pollution Control Board". This renaming initiative is aimed at aligning the nomenclature with those of similar regulatory bodies in other Indian states, thereby enhancing institutional clarity and promoting administrative uniformity.
In the cultural domain, the Cabinet announced the prestigious Srimanta Sankardeva Award 2023 would be conferred upon renowned classical dancer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr. Sonal Mansingh. The award comprises a cash prize of ₹5 lakh and a formal citation. The ceremony is scheduled for June 12 and will be held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, where Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will present the award. This recognition celebrates Dr. Mansingh’s lifelong dedication to Indian classical dance and her contributions to the preservation of Indian cultural heritage.
Overall, the Cabinet's decisions reflect a multi-sectoral development strategy that emphasizes social welfare, infrastructure, institutional reforms, environmental governance, and cultural pride.
