On June 17, a team from the Forensic Crime Scene Unit arrived at Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra to conduct a detailed reconstruction of the crime scene linked to the brutal murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. This marks a significant phase in the ongoing investigation, aiming to uncover critical evidence and establish the exact sequence of events leading to the crime. Accompanying the forensic team were personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Meghalaya Police, who are assisting in the reconstruction process.

The accused — including Raja’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash, Vishal, and Anand — are being brought to the scene to help investigators piece together how the alleged murder occurred. According to police sources, this process is essential to verify statements collected during interrogations and ensure all evidence aligns with the physical crime scene. The reconstruction is being carried out at a parking lot in Sohra, believed to be the primary location where the crime took place.

Police have confirmed the recovery of a sharp-edged weapon allegedly bought from Guwahati, which is suspected to have been used in the murder. A senior officer emphasized that forensic mapping and a physical walkthrough of the site are vital to building a strong case that can withstand legal scrutiny. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that investigators are working within the legal timeframe to file a chargesheet against the accused.

The murder case has garnered widespread public and media attention due to its brutal nature and the involvement of close family members. Raja Raghuvanshi had been reported missing, and the discovery of his murder has sparked growing outrage, particularly surrounding the alleged role of his wife, Sonam. The victim’s family has openly questioned Sonam’s version of events, pointing out inconsistencies and urging the police to conduct a narco-analysis test on her.

Vipin Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, accused Sonam and co-accused Raj of deliberately misleading the police and hiding the truth. He also questioned the silence of Sonam’s parents and demanded that they be interrogated by the authorities. Another brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, organized a candlelight march in Indore to demand justice for Raja and keep public attention focused on the case. During the march, Sachin expressed his commitment to pursuing justice for his brother, stating that he would go to any length to achieve it.

The case has also drawn political responses. Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G Momin addressed concerns from the public, urging people not to tarnish the state’s image due to the crime. He emphasized that Meghalaya remains a safe and tourist-friendly destination. Momin commended the Meghalaya Police for their effective work in cracking the high-profile case and called for those defaming the state to apologize.

Overall, the investigation into Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder continues to unfold rapidly, with strong public and political interest driving calls for accountability, transparency, and justice.
