In a meaningful initiative aimed at strengthening cultural harmony and linguistic inclusivity, Arunachal Pradesh’s Minister of Education, Rural Works Department (RWD), and Tourism, Pasang Dorjee Sona, officially inaugurated the Assamese Language Learning Centre (LLC) in Itanagar. The launch event took place on Sunday and marks a milestone in fostering regional integration and mutual respect between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring Assam.

The Assamese Language Learning Centre was established through the efforts of the Assamese Association of Itanagar (AAI). The centre’s primary goal is to provide a platform where individuals can learn the Assamese language while also fostering appreciation for the culture and traditions of Assam. The initiative emphasizes linguistic diversity and seeks to deepen the socio-cultural bond between communities on both sides of the interstate border.

In his keynote speech during the inaugural ceremony, Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona highlighted the power of language as a tool that unites communities, bridges divides, and builds shared understanding. “Language isn’t just a method of communication; it’s a powerful medium that links people through a shared sense of history, heritage, and identity,” he said. His statement underscored the broader vision of the centre, which is not just to teach a language but to act as a cultural bridge between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Minister Sona praised the Assamese Association of Itanagar for taking the initiative and emphasized that such efforts are critical in maintaining peace and unity in a multicultural society like India's northeastern region. He stated that the centre serves as a model for cultural cooperation, showing how grassroots efforts can lead to regional solidarity and stronger bonds of brotherhood.

The inauguration event also featured the presence of Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, an eminent literary personality and recipient of the Padma Shri award. Thongchi is also the founding president of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, a body that has played a pivotal role in promoting literature and linguistic inclusivity in the region. His presence added significant weight to the event and highlighted the cultural importance of the new centre.

Pramod Kalita, the Principal of Lakhimpur University, also attended the event, further strengthening the academic and inter-state collaborative angle of the programme. The involvement of figures from both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam underlined the cross-border support for the initiative.

The launch of the Assamese Language Learning Centre is seen as part of a broader regional strategy aimed at fostering goodwill and mutual respect through education and cultural exchange. It highlights the role of language learning in enhancing interpersonal and inter-state relations, especially in a region where multiple languages and ethnic groups coexist.

This initiative is expected to benefit not just students and professionals but also community members looking to enhance their language skills and cultural understanding. By doing so, the centre supports a more cohesive and connected northeastern India, rooted in mutual respect and shared heritage.
