Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, speaking at the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Goreswar College in Tamulpur, called upon students to remain updated with emerging technologies and modern skills to actively contribute to nation-building. He underlined the evolving landscape of education and stressed the need for youth to adapt to technological advancements to drive India’s progress.

Sarma emphasised that educational institutions should not be limited to centers of academic instruction alone but should function as active catalysts for the socio-economic empowerment of the communities they serve. He praised Goreswar College for its development into one of Assam's premier higher education institutions and its positive role in transforming the region.

The Chief Minister highlighted the necessity of aligning educational efforts with national priorities, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047. He referred to the youth as “Amrit Santan,” symbolising the potential of the younger generation to lead India's transformative journey in the years to come. According to him, students must take charge of shaping the nation's destiny through innovation, awareness, and responsibility.

In light of rapid global changes in education and employment sectors, Sarma pointed out the decline in relevance of traditional methods and the rise of cutting-edge fields. He encouraged students to equip themselves with skills in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Physics, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR), and Data Analytics. These, he said, are the tools of the future and must be incorporated into the knowledge base of India’s youth to ensure they remain globally competitive.

He also noted that in a world increasingly driven by technology and innovation, institutions must take the lead in curriculum development and reform. Colleges and universities should review, update, and modernise their syllabi to reflect the demands of the new digital age, and to prepare students for real-world challenges and opportunities.

The Chief Minister's address resonated with a call to action for both students and educational administrators: for students, to take ownership of their future by developing critical skills, and for institutions, to evolve with the times to stay relevant and impactful. By doing so, Assam—and India as a whole—can foster a knowledge-driven economy that supports inclusive growth and national development.

Sarma’s message at the event was both motivational and strategic, combining praise for Goreswar College’s accomplishments with a visionary outlook for the future. He reiterated his government’s commitment to improving the education sector and ensuring that institutions in Assam are well-equipped to shape the next generation of responsible, capable, and technologically adept citizens.
