Billionaire Gautam Adani has announced the Adani Group's foray into the healthcare sector, marking a major expansion of his business empire. The group plans to establish large-scale, integrated healthcare facilities called “Adani Healthcare Temples” — 1,000-bed hospitals to be set up initially in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This healthcare initiative is part of the Adani family’s ₹60,000 crore commitment towards healthcare, education, and skill development in India.

The announcement was made during Adani’s address at the annual conference of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery-Asia Pacific held in Mumbai. He outlined a visionary approach to transforming healthcare delivery in India through scalable, modular infrastructure designed to respond effectively during pandemics and emergencies. These new hospitals will not only provide medical treatment but will also integrate innovation, patient care, and applied learning within a single institutional framework.

A defining characteristic of the proposed Adani Healthcare Temples will be their AI-first approach — using artificial intelligence for diagnostics, clinical decision-making, and treatment planning. This makes them among the first large-scale Indian hospital chains to be built with AI integration as a core component. These smart hospitals are expected to serve as global benchmarks in terms of affordability, innovation, and operational scale.

In a significant development, Adani revealed that the healthcare campuses will be developed in collaboration with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. The partnership will bring advanced research, clinical care, and academic training under one ecosystem, offering Indian healthcare professionals and patients access to world-class facilities and practices. This model aims to bridge the gap between high-quality healthcare and its availability to a broader population.

Adani emphasized the human element of healthcare transformation, stating that “human-centric insurance products” would be a foundational part of the new healthcare ecosystem. These insurance products will aim to empower families, reduce financial burdens, and ensure that quality healthcare is within reach for all, especially during medical emergencies.

Highlighting the growing issue of spinal ailments in India, Adani termed it a “spinal epidemic,” citing back pain as the nation’s leading cause of disability. “We cannot rise if our people cannot stand,” he remarked, underscoring the urgent need to focus on spine health and related medical care. This focus is reflected in the location of the announcement — at a spine surgery conference — and in his call for specialists to contribute to AI-based spinal diagnostics and mobile surgical units for rural outreach.

Adani called upon medical professionals, innovators, and technologists to become active participants in this transformational journey. He urged collaboration in creating advanced surgical centers and portable operating theatres to bring top-quality care even to underserved regions. He noted that the Adani Group's entry into healthcare was not because the sector lacked momentum but because the existing momentum was not enough to meet India's urgent and growing healthcare needs.

Summing up his vision, Adani declared, “This is not evolution. It’s a revolution.” With its bold scale, tech-driven approach, and human-centric mission, the Adani Group’s healthcare push aims to redefine the way healthcare is delivered in India.
